TLR at the 2011 Spektrum Off-Road Championships

Multiple members of the team made the trip to Trackside Hobbies and Raceway in Milwaukee, WI for the 2012 Spektrum Off-Road Championships where many of the Losi drivers walked away with some impressive hardware. Dustin Evans took top honors winning the 2WD Mod Truck with the 22T Truck Kit and in the 4WD Buggy Class with the XXX-4 G+ Buggy Kit. In 2WD Mod Buggy Dustin piloted the 22 Buggy Kit to a second place finish in a very competitive field of drivers.

One of the most impressive stats from the weekend is the final results from the 2WD Modified Truck class. Six of the top seven drivers in this class were driving Team Losi Racing 22T Trucks.

Dakota Phend had another grand performance by taking the TQ spot in 4WD Short Course with the TEN-SCT outfitted with the Team Losi Racing TEN-SCT Tuning Kit.

Congratulations to all the drivers and a BIG thank you to Scotty and everyone at Trackside!

In 1/8 Truggy Jason raced like a champ. He took the lead and never looked back.

TLR Sweeps Modelcar-Novamodel Challenge Series

Team Losi Racing swept the final round of the Modelcar-Novamodel Challenge Series. The final round was held at the new track of Vilela (Paredes), in north Portugal. TLR driver Ricardo Monteiro already locked up the series championship at the last round taking some pressure off him for the final meeting. Ricardo Monteiro put his TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU in the number one starting grid position for the 45min A-main after winning his semi-final. On lap three Ricardo experienced some problems early on giving the lead to his TLR teammate Joao Lopes, the young tiger, to take the win at the final round of the championship with his TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU buggy. TLR driver, Nuno Rebelo, was second and Carlos Cardoso took the third spot for a TLR podium sweep with their TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU buggies. TLR placed a total of seven vehicles in the expert 1/8th buggy main proving the continuing dominance of the TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU throughout Europe.

Aigoin Takes French National Championship with 8IGHT 2.0 EU

Team Losi Racing's dominance in Europe continued this past weekend with TLR and Horizon Hobby driver Yannick Aigoin taking his 7th French National Championship. Yannick’s back-to-back 1/8th buggy title is all after Darren Bloomfield had won the 2011 BRCA 1/8 Buggy National Championship a few weeks prior and Ricardo Rabbitti wining the 2011 Italian National Championships all with the TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU. The French National Championship came down to the final round to decide the champion where Yannick secured his impressive 7th title with his nVision powered TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU.

Team Losi Racing and Horizon Hobby's Rabbitti Takes 3rd Italian National Championship

TLR and Horizon Hobby team driver Riccardo Rabitti wins his 3rd Italian National championship at the final round at Marigliano in Naples. Going into the final round there were five drivers in contention for the coveted Italian title. Riccardo started in the middle of the field for the 45min A-main. The Marigliano track was quite rigorous with many bumps and dusty condition. Riccardo stayed patient and drove an excellent final wining the last round and winning the Italian National Championship with his TLR 8IGHT 2.0 EU buggy.

Team Losi Racing Sweeps South Germany

The Baden-Württemberg Cup 2011 was dominated by Team Losi Racing in both the buggy and truggy classes. Consisting of five rounds with two through-outs, TLR/HorizonHobby Team Driver Ralf Dennenmoser took the overall win in the truggy category whilst TLR/HorizonHobby Team Driver Hannes Käufler dominated the buggy class. Ralf Dennenmoser clinched second place with his TLR 8ight 2.0 EU Buggy. Three wins for Hannes were enough to secure him the top spot after only four rounds. Ralf won the remaining two races, so together they won each round of the BaWü Cup 2011. Ralf was the man to beat in truggy: four wins meant he even had a win as a throug-away result!
To top things off, TLR drivers Pascal Sass took third overall in buggy and Andreas Ruepp second in truggy.

Root Wins at Charity Event for Susan G. Komen Foundation

Team Losi Racing and Losi's Frank Root attended the Inaugural Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure this past Saturday at SDRC Raceway. The track had great grip, and a fun, technical layout. The entry count was very strong at 123 and a great day of racing was had by all. In addition to the racing, there was a fantastic raffle, activities for kids, and a bake sale for additional donations. 100% of the race entries went directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation, an amazing total of $7,200!!

2wd Modified Buggy – Frank had a great day with his TLR 22. He was able to win each round of qualifying to taking the overall TQ, lowering the quick lap on the layout by several tenths. With a clean start in the main event, Frank would put in a very fast and clean run and would eventually lap the field to claim a dominating win.
Pro-2 (Modified SC) - Frank's Losi XXX-SCT equipped with the TLR Tuned Kit and JConcepts Gold Bar Codes was on point again in qualifying. Frank would run the fastest time in each of the three rounds of qualifying, taking the TQ! The single 5-minute main started with a brief challenge from 2nd place, but Frank would soon pull away leaving the rest of the field to battle for 2nd place. Just like buggy, Frank would eventually lap the field and cruise home to a dominating win!
Frank won using the following equipment:
TLR 22 Kit (TLR0022)
Losi XXX-SCT Roller (LOSB0106)

Mazzara Winds at 1st Annual New York City Off-road Championships

Outdoor Off-road R/C racing came to the Big Apple at the newly built Fort Knox RC Park in Bronx, NY. The race was organized by a dedicated group of enthusiastic racers to host the 1st Annual New York City Off-road Championships. Team Losi Racing team driver Anthony Mazzara was the fastest driver in qualifying taking top qualifying positions in both pro buggy and pro truggy with his TLR 8IGHT 2.0 and TLR 8IGHT-T 2.0. Anthony convincingly took the top podium positions with his Nitrotec powered TLR vehicles. In pro buggy Anthony’s TLR teammate, James Schlick, took the runner up position.

Team Losi Racing Takes Wins at JBRL Electric Series

Team Losi Racing and Losi's Frank Root, Matt Castellano, Ryan Dunford, Keith Whisler, Aaron Lane, and Doug Nielsen attended the penultimate round of the 2011 JBRL Electric Series at OCRC Raceway. The track had great grip, and a fun, technical layout. The entry count was very strong at 195 and a great day of racing was had by all.
Modified Racing Truck – Frank was on hand to run his brand new TLR 22T for the first time at a JBRL Race, and it did not disappoint. Frank would put down a clean and very quick run in the first round of qualifying, that would not be challenged. After trying some setup changes in round 2, Frank reverted to his Q1 setup for the main event. On the first lap, Frank made a costly error, dropping him back to 5th, but a few quick laps and clean passes quickly got Frank back into the lead where he would remain until the end of the race.
Pro2 (Modified SC) - Frank's Losi XXX-SCT with the TLR Tuned Kit was on point again in qualifying. Frank would run the fastest time in both of the two rounds of qualifying, taking the TQ by over 8 seconds! The single 6-minute main started with a brief challenge from 2nd place, but Frank would soon pull away leaving the rest of the field to battle for 2nd place. Ryan Dunford will come through the field and work his way up to the battle for 2nd, and would eventually take the spot. Ryan was the only driver to finish on the lead lap as Frank ran a very clean main taking his 3rd A-main win this season!

Pro Buggy – This was the first ever Pro Buggy race in the history of the JBRL. The Pro Buggy class is a 17.5T, No Timing class racing the all new Losi XXX-SCB Short Course Buggy and other comparable vehicles. The field was 7 buggies strong, and is sure to grow in the future. Mod 2wd point leader, Aaron Lane would have the honors of the first Pro Buggy TQ, taking it in the 2nd round just ahead of Doug Nielsen. Come the main, Aaron has a slight issue, leaving Ryan Dunford and Doug “Casper” Nielsen to battle it out for the win. Doug was a bit faster on the track, but little bobbles prevented him from making a pass on Ryan for the lead. Ryan would stay clean and take the first every Pro Buggy Victory, with Casper in 2nd, and Keith Whisler finishing out the podium.

Losi Dominates Short Course Showdown Series with XXX-SCT and TEN-SCTE

At the fourth and final event of the Short Course Showdown series hosted by Mikes Hobby Shop in Dallas, Texas, it was Losi's Dustin Evans who flat out dominated the event with his Orion powered Losi XXX-SCT and Ten SCT-E.
Beginning with the Modified Short Course Class, Dustin was the only driver to complete 16 laps in qualifying for the Top Qualifying honors. Dustin backed up qualifying by winning the class with a 13 second margin over 2nd place.
Continuing his domination of the Short Course Showdown, Dustin used his Losi Ten SCT-E to TQ the 4wd Modified Class. He and Losi team mate Quincy Hughes, were the only drivers to complete 17 laps in qualifying. In fact, 7 of the top 10 drivers chose the Losi TEN SCT-E as their vehicle of choice. In the Main, Dustin used his TQ position to lead from end to end with team mates Josh Glancy and Quincy finishing in 2nd and 3rd for a complete Losi podium.
In the Stock Class, it was privateer Brent Burns using his Losi SCT to take the win in a battle that came down to the last turn and a drag race to the finish line.
Congratulations to Dustin and Brent for the awesome drives and completing a clean sweep for Losi.

Mazzara Attends the 11th Annual Race against Cancer

Team Losi Racing driver Anthony Mazzara attended the 11th Annual Race against Cancer at McCulloughs Raceway in Sarver, PA. There were over 150 entries that included racers across six different states. Anthony TQ’d and Won the 1/8 Electric Buggy class with his TLR 8ight-E 2.0 while qualifying second in both 1/8th Nitro buggy and truggy. After the 30 minute A-mains in the nitro classes Anthony was able to pull off the win in both 1/8th Nitro buggy and truggy with his TLR 8ight 2.0 and 8ight-T 2.0 respectively. This gave Anthony the podium sweep in all three 1/8th classes. Anthony used 30% Nitrotane fuel to give him the advantage on mileage while also choosing Losi Ultra Digit tires for buggy (LOSA7774G) and Losi Digits (LOSA7785G) on truggy to take the overall win in the nitro classes. This was the 11th year of the event and their goal was to raise at least $10,000 dollars donating all proceeds to the American Cancer Society. Anthony raffled off his TLR 8ight 2.0 to the winner of the raffle Mike Lloyd (seen in the photo holding his new TLR 8ight 2.0) adding an additional $400 to the $11,000 dollars for the weekends race.

Tumbleweed Classic

Team Losi Racing was out in full force for the 18th annual Tumbleweed Classic hosted by the ARCOR R/C Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In recent years the club has raised enough money to add a separate Nitro only track. This keeps the heavy 1/8th cars off of the super high bite surface of the electric track. A mixture of loamy dirt and 600 pounds of sugar is known for its smooth high traction and 2 ROAR Electric National events.
The two separate tracks make for an event that offers a challenge to any driver on the two opposite ends of the race surface spectrum.
In the 1/8th buggy class it was TLR driver Casey Peck who dominated qualifying with his Novarossi/Nitrotane powered TLR 8IGHT 2.0 buggy. Casey used the Losi G2 Green Digits (LOSA7774G) with Losi closed cell foam (LOSA7731) for optimum traction and drivability. This combination was potent as he led every lap of the 30 minute main on the blown out and slick track. TLR team mate Lars Johnson came back from a bad start to cruise to a runner up position with his TLR 8 2.0 buggy rounding out a 1-2 TLR sweep.
The 1/8th Truggy class was a carbon copy of buggy qualifying as Peck took the overall TQ with his TLR 8IGHT-T 2.0. With the 30 minute buggy main already run on the track it was in pretty rough shape but the TLR 8IGHT-T 2.0 proved to be up to the task. When the tone sounded an all out battle ensued between Lars and Casey as they swapped positions for several minutes until Lars suffered a flame out and let Casey cruise to the end of the 30 minute final. Lars shook off the bad luck and began to chip away at the rest of the field as he came from a lap down and passed his way into the runner up spot.
Over on the Electric track it was TLR team driver Chris Wheeler who rose to the top of 2-wheel modified qualifying with his TLR 22. The high traction track combined with tricky timing sections proved to be no match for the TLR 22. After the dust settled from 3 rounds of qualifying, it was Chris, and TLR team mate Charles Hicks who rose above a full field of copy cat-long chassis buggies. After triple A-mains it was Tucson native Charles Hicks who put his head in the game and won both the A1 and A3 to take the overall from TQ and A2 winner Chris Wheeler. Chris and Chuck both relied on Losi Red BK Bar (LOSA7371R) for unmatched traction and speed on their TLR buggies.
In the novice class it was local youngster Thomas Freund taking top qualifying honors with his stock LOSA XXX-SCT and capped off a perfect weekend with a convincing main event win.

West Coast Championship Series, Round 7

TLR and Losi's Frank Root, Matt Schreffler, Drew Moller, Trevor Adamo, and Colby Poh raced the 7th Round of the West Coast Championship Series at WCRC Raceway. In 2wd Buggy, the TLR crew put on a clinic with 22’s in the top 5 spots on the grid lead by Trevor Adamo’s TQ. The main would be all 22’s again. Trevor would lead the field off from pole, with Drew Moller in the 2, and Frank Root in the 3. Frank made a move to the 2 spot, then got by Trevor for the lead when Trevor had a bobble in the woops section. A daring attempt by Trevor to quickly regain the lead would not work out and drop him from 2nd to 4th where he would finish. Up front, Frank would put in clean laps and take the win ahead of Drew Moller and a hard charging Matt Schreffler giving TLR a clean sweep of the podium! Pro2 (Modified SC) was all Frank Root! Frank's Losi XXX-SCT with the TLR Tuned Kit was on point in qualifying taking an easy TQ. The single 5-minute main started with Frank pulling out to an early lead, and he would nearly lap the field by the end of the race taking a dominant win and his second of the day!

Root won using the following equipment:
Losi XXX-SCT Roller (LOSB0106)
TLR Tuned Kit for XXX-SCT (TLR0900)
Xcelorin 6000mAh 60C 2S LiPo (LOSB9877)

Aigoin Closer To French National Title

TLR driver Yannick Aigoin still on the way to keep his French National title.
Yannick Aigoin would take TQ and win at the 4th round of the national championship held at St-Quentin in north of France. After an amazing final, Yannick bring his nVision powered TLR 2.0 EU buggy to the victory.
With one round to go, Yannick is leading the championship with 3 wins. A podium spot at the last round would ensure him the 2011 title.

Root Wins Grand Opening Race as SDRC

Losi's Frank Root made the short drive to San Diego for the Grand Opening Race at SDRC. SDRC is the newest track to grace the San Diego R/C scene, but the only indoor track in years. The track layout was fun with a long fast straight for an awesome weekend of racing.
Pro2 (Modified SC) - Franks's Losi XXX-SCT with the TLR Tuned Kit was on point in qualifying. Frank would run the fast time in of the two rounds of qualifying, taking the TQ by over 6 seconds! The single 6-minute main started with a brief challenge from 2nd place, but Frank tightened up his lines and would pull away taking a comfortable win!

Frank won using the following equipment:

TLR Tuned Kit for XXX-SCT (TLR0900)
Xcelorin 6000mAh 60C 2S LiPo (LOSB9877)

Infanti Takes Buggy Win at Canadian off Road Championship Series

TLR team driver Richard Infanti made the trip out to round 1 and put in two great drives to take the TQ win in pro truggy. It the pro buggy class Richard would just miss out on the TQ but put in a fantastic main to take the overall win in pro buggy.

JBRL Nitro Series

Southern California’s JBRL Nitro Series sponsored by TLR. The host track was Palm Desert Raceway. The event turnout was light with around 100 entries due to the Holiday weekend and the extreme temperatures of 118 degrees and the track temp was 166 degrees. In qualifying it was Team Losi Racing / Nova Rossi driver Adam Drake who set the pace in both of the expert 1/8th classes. The extreme temperatures made chassis and engine tuning difficult for most of the racers.
At the start of the truck main Drake began to pull away and at the end of the 25 minute main Drake took the win followed by Brad Wintermantle who was also driving a TLR 8ight T 2.0.

In the buggy final, Drake led from start to finish and won the 25 minute final. Tim Long finished third with his TLR 8ight 2.0. Due to the extreme heat a number of drivers had engine problems, but Drake’s Nova Rossi engines ran prefect all day and he took the double victory. Nova Rossi engines also tq’ed and won the intermediate buggy and truck class. Congrats to Jacob Haas on winning truck with his TLR 8ight T 2.0 and to Sean Gaffney for winning the buggy class.

Drake Takes Buggy and Truggy Wins in JBRL Nitro Round 2

Southern California’s JBRL series sponsored by Team Losi Racing brought in many of the top driver’s in preparation for next months ROAR 1/8th fuel Nationals. Some of the nearly 200 entries included Adam Drake, Cody King, Mike Truhe, Dustin Evans, Matt Schreffler, Drew Moller, Travis Amezcua, Brent Thielke, Steven Hartson, Clint Wachter, Colby Poh, Dani Choi, Chad Bradley, Andy Smolnik, and Jessie Robinson. In qualifying it was Team Losi Racing / Nova Rossi driver Adam Drake who set the pace in both of the expert 1/8th classes. The temperatures in sunny CA started to drop by the time the mains rolled around and the track started getting rough.
The start of the expert truck main was delayed two minutes as Drake hit another vehicle that was up side down during warm-up which severely bent a front shock shaft. Drake’s pit crew wasn’t able to repair the shock, but they did have enough time to bolt on another shock from Mike Truhe’s buggy. At the start of the main Drake began to pull away from Bradley, Moller, and King as they were in a heat battle. At the end of the 20 minute main Drake took the win by a half a lap over King and Bradley.
In the buggy final Drake, Amezcua, and King start to break away from the rest of the field. King then suffered a flameout, but continued on to finished sixth. Drake led from start to finish and won the 20 minute main followed by Amezcua in second and Bradley rounding out the top three.

Team Losi Racing put four TEN-SCTE cars in the A-main with Ryan Dunford qualifing the highest starting in second. At the start of the A-main Dunford made a spectacular sky pass, jumping over the leader to take the lead and never looked back. Lane battled for 2nd for a while until Casper snuck up on and passed him on a bobble. The two would battle for 2nd and 3rd for a few laps but Casper edged him out in the end to take 2nd place with Lane finishing 3rd.

In the Sportsman Stock Truck class Keith Whisler started the day off right with a TQ in Round 1 of qualifying and taking overall TQ of the day. It is always nice to start out front in electric racing with short 6 minute mains and that was shown to be true with a great start in the main from Whisler. Team Losi Racing’s Matt Chambers and Dustin Evans were on hand at the 16th Annual Rumble in the Rockies in Aurora, Colorado. In 2wd Modified qualifying, TLR’s Matt Chambers took TQ honors over team mate Dustin Evans with their Team Losi Racing 22.

After the triple A-Main it was the 2011 Reedy Race Winner, Dustin Evans taking the win with Matt Chambers in 3rd. Both drivers used Losi Pink Rear BK Bars (LOSA7371P) and Pink Front Taper Pins (LOSA7207P) on their 22’s along with the new Xcelorin LiPo 2S 7.4v 3800mah 60C LiPo battery pack (LOSB9880).
