Phillip Atondo Wins Octoberfest
Central Valley R/C Raceway hosted
the Octoberfest this weekend. TLR's Phillip Atondo TQed the 1/8 nitro buggy
class and the only one to go the extra lap in qualifying! Race went deep into
the night and track changed a lot with the moisture coming up and under the
lights. At the start of the 30 min buggy main Atondo made early mistakes as he
dropped back to about 5th witch allowed Tyler Vik and Austin Blair to get out
front. Vik and Blair were battling witch allowed Atondo to reel them in! Atondo
got by Blair and was setting his sights on Vik who was running a smooth race.
Just after the halfway mark Atondo caught Vik and they would swap positions
with a great battle and Atondo being patient to get around Vik. In the last
5min of the race Vik crashed in the big rhythm section witch allowed Atondo to
get by and pull away for the win!
Atondo's TLR 8ight 3.0 buggy was
equipped with a Team Orion 3 port engine and JConcepts Black Hybrid tires.
1st: Phillip Atondo -TLR, Orion
3rd: Jacob Haas - TLR
Dakotah Phend wins Michigan State Finals
After a full year of 6 rounds of racing, racers from all over gathered at AMS Raceway on Saturday October 19th for the final round of the 2013 season. Title battles were still going on for all classes, which meant that we could expect some very close racing all day long. On top of that, some special guests had shown up: Dakotah Phend and Ryan Lutz! On top of the racing excitement, both the series the sponsors had provided a LOT of raffle prizes for the series regulars! At the end of the day, the top 10 in every class in the overall standings were awarded with trophies!
1/8th Scale Nitro Buggy:
TLR’s Dakotah Phend showed up late, due to a school related test in the morning, and went on a rampage with his first run and took over TQ by 9 seconds and this run put him on pole position for the A main. After the start of the 30 minute main, TLR’s Phend took the lead, closely followed by Lutz, TLR’s Tyler Jones and TLR’s Dylan Gerard. While Phend was clicking off blistering laps, Lutz tried to keep up, but wasn't able to match the pace of Phend. At the end of the race, Phend was long gone with Jones and Gerard were still battling over the remaining spots on the podium. At the end of the 30 minutes, it was a TLR sweep with TLR/Orion/Pro-Line/Horizon Hobby sponsored Dakotah Phend crossing the line in first, followed by TLR/JConcepts/Horizon Hobby sponsored Tyler Jones in second and TLR/AKA/Horizon Hobby sponsored Dylan Gerard in third.
